Joseph "Joe" Edward Root is an English cricketer born December 30, 1990, who is considered one of the greatest batsmen of all time. A right-handed batter who bowls right-arm off-spin, he plays for England and Yorkshire. As of 2025, he is ranked first in the ICC's Test batting rankings and is England's highest all-time Test run-scorer. Off the field, he is married to Carrie Cotterell, with whom he has two children, and is a supporter of Sheffield United Football Club.
